Bank transactions are booking transactions used to record movements on company bank accounts within the Bookkeeping. These include, in particular, incoming payments, outgoing payments and other account-related business transactions.
Bankbuchungen sind die Aufzeichnungen von Ein- und Auszahlungen auf einem Bankkonto.
Bank transactions represent the business transactions taking place on a bank account in accounting terms. The basis for this can be, for example, bank statements or electronic bank information.
A bank movement is thereby assigned to the underlying transaction and recorded within the Bookkeeping on the corresponding accounts.
What information belongs to a bank transaction?
A bank transaction typically contains information that allows the respective account movement to be traced and assigned. This includes, for example:
- Booking amount
- Bank account
- corresponding offsetting account
- Booking date
- Reference to the underlying transaction
The technical categorisation of a bank transaction is closely linked to the Account assignment and the resulting Booking entry.
Bank transaction and Payment transactions – what is the difference?
Bank statements and Payments denote different processes.
The Payment transactions covers the execution or processing of payments. The bank posting then records the resulting account movement within the Bookkeeping.
In short: The Payment transactions concerns the payment itself, and the bank booking covers its accounting entry.
Classification into Bookkeeping
Bank transactions can be related to different business transactions. For example, an incoming payment can be allocated to an open receivable, while an outgoing payment can be linked to an existing liability.
Bank transactions are therefore part of ongoing Bookkeeping, but do not have an independent significance as a payment or settlement procedure.
